State and federally trained wetland specialist/botanist and certified soil scientists team up for a unique two day field training experience. The first in a series of seasonal classes, this course will provide a two day, hands on, intensive all inclusive ‘how to’ class covering the rules, science, finesse and art of field delineating State and federally jurisdictional wetlands.
Hydric soils, hydrophytic vegetation, and hydrologic indicators are reviewed and discussed in the classroom, and then identified and evaluated in actual field settings. A certified soil scientist will provide added support for hydric soils determinations, and to demonstrate how hydric soils can be evaluated in atypical or disturbed sites.
The October 20-21, 2009 class will be followed by winter (post freeze), spring and summer sessions to compare and contrast wetland delineation efforts during all times of the year when the primary indicators are not always readily apparent or available for use.
- Limited class sizes ensures personalized instruction to meet the needs of each participant;
- Vast experience working with regulatory agencies gives instructors (botanist & soil scientist) a solid basis of understanding not only what the rules say, but also what the reviewers expect;
- Field exercises will focus on both regular and ‘disturbed’ sites, to diversify the types of wetlands evaluated; and
- Real world situations presented to maximize the value of the training exercises.
- Certificates will be provided upon completion.
